The HEART of REIKI
INTUITION
One aspect of Reiki which lies at the very core of the experience relates to the intuition. The most profound and life-changing way in which Reiki has pervaded my Being has been the slow but steady emergence of the ability to hear and act upon my intuition.
Being present at a Reiki attunement and setting the intent to be a channel for Reiki, you are asking to become aligned to the Universal Flow of Life which is then manifested as your own inner knowing or intuition. The intense over-emphasis that our society has placed on the mind and the intellect through the forms of the modern world and its thought structures and beliefs, has knocked us out of the Universal Flow to a large extent. We may experience a place of beauty and have a glimmer of connection or we may smell wood-smoke and feel unexpectedly serene for a moment, but today these fleeting feelings are all that many people can hope to experience of their absolute connection to Nature, to their surroundings, to their Planet and to each other.
The Reiki attunement, whether it comes from the potent energetic source of the symbols or merely the wish to know the truth of connection once more, re-introduces us to the Silence and the ‘Oneness’ that is our true human state. The full experience of this would be a shock to our fragile minds and bodies and so in the Reiki form of today we have three attunements with a gap of at least 21 days between each one for time to settle. In traditional Reiki however, the Practitioner was attuned regularly on meeting up with the Reiki Master, supporting the belief that each attunement creates a deeper cleansing of all thought-forms and structures which stand in the way of Universal Flow. Each time you are attuned it seems, an aspect of what does not serve you is washed away and you are connected more deeply to your intuition.
Your intuition is the Universal Knowing which beats at the very heart of the Reiki form. Slowly, you begin to know how to act without having to think about it, moving the centre of personal action away from the mind towards the heart. This increase in intuitive capacity is a true gift which begins to pervade every aspect of our lives. In this way, the art of Reiki Healing is transformed into a Life path, assisting us in the Journey home to Truth. When we begin to feel our way through life rather than think it, a very different way of living is supported based on new Universal Truths which we have accessed internally.
In Reiki training I aim to support each practitioner in their path towards feeling and hearing their intuition. I re-attune regularly and although I teach the Reiki hand positions I have vastly simplified them and placed more emphasis on the practitioner’s ability to ‘feel’ the Reiki and be intuitively guided when giving a treatment. By practicing the healing form in this way, Practitioners are able to cultivate their own intuitive abilities and bring them into their own lives.
Dr Usui had no hand positions and always taught Reiki as an intuitive practice. I am drawn towards this as I feel that Reiki as a ‘Healing’ form is giving way to a much greater need for Reiki to become a ‘Way of Being’ in today’s evolving consciousness. I think it may be time for Reiki to become a much wider, deeper practice and one way we can do this is to support the intuitive capabilities of all who come to Reiki.
