We have been really busy organising the first “Journey of Awakening Retreat” at Riad Zamzam. On the 29 January we will be holding an exciting four day Ashtanga Yoga and Reiki Retreat in Marrakech in the heart of the Medina, the ancient walled city.

The four days will be all inclusive, including Yoga with Aisha, Reiki with Reiki Master Rebecca Hutley from Spain, delicious and nutritional food to feed body and soul by Emma and her Zamzam chefs, a journey into the Atlas Mountains with lunch at the stunning Kasbah Toubkal and a visit to the Agafay Desert outside Marrakech to La Pause, an eco retreat where we will have a traditional Moroccan dinner under the stars! Yoga Guru, Aisha Barzaghi will be leading two yoga sessions a day to work holistically with your awakening on this retreat. Aisha now living in Marrakech and building a dedicated yoga retreat has lived and trained for 7 years in New York City and 7 years in San Franciso, and has combined a variety of styles, from Ashtanga Yoga to Power Vinyasa Yoga and pranayama (breathing technique) and meditation, to a more slower inward Yin Yoga focusing on alignment and refinement of asanas. Her teaching style focuses on prana building, building heat in the body to cleanse, release, remove and heal various aspects of the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual bodies.

Her training and experience as a bodyworker brings an acute sense of the anatomical layout of the body to the application of asana practice.

Knowing that each individual is unique in their own right, as their bodies are, to the journey and practice of yoga, being aware in each class, each lesson, the unique individuals needs to that journey and nurturing that through humour, patience and loving kindness.

Aisha currently holds classes at Kasbah Tamadot (Richard Branson’s Kasbah), she is excited to be joining this holistic retreat at Riad Zamzam.

The second major component to the “Journey of Awakening Retreat” is Rebecca Hutley who will be coming from Spain to mentor and unveil reiki on the retreat and use her healing hands. Rebecca has been a Reiki Master of Usui and Tibetan Reiki for over 10 years. Her life in that time has taken her around the world teaching, training and practicing. She has worked with MTV, taking a team of Reiki practitioners on European tour and has taken Reiki into the corporate arena. She says, ‘Reiki is a gift to the modern world reminding us that we can heal ourselves. It is a form which takes us beyond our current perceptions of the body and how it works and explains the indivisible links between the mind, emotions, body and Soul. Reiki is a practice which enables people to relax and explore aspects of themselves often hidden by their busy lives. It becomes a way of being by re-connecting us to our true self’.

All of this and more will create a powerful and exciting four days journey in and around Marrakech. The all inclusive activities will be optional and we have created free time and guides for you to discover the magic of the Medina itself. Riad Zamzam will host The Journey of Awakening Retreat so you will get the best of both worlds - full concierge service, luxurious beds to jump into at night, heated pool and spa facilities. Emma is including a free massage and the hammam (with black olive soap, mineral mud body pack) at the retreat.

Reiki Retreat in Andalucia, Spain. Reiki I and Reiki II

I will be holding a Reiki Retreat in Spain, combining both Reiki I and Reiki II workshops. The groups that form for both workshops will spend the weekend together under the stars to reconnect to the nature that surrounds, to their own inner knowing and by coming together as a group will support each other. You will leave with a higher connection to the Reiki knowledge and a feeling of lightness and excitement about the journey ahead. Those already attuned to Reiki II or Masters are welcome for re-attunement and further practice. It will be a joy to be together in such a space, created by you all.

Price is: £485 including airport transfers, accommodation for three nights and delicious food. The nearest airport is Malaga.

We are based near to the beautiful white village of Frigiliana, inland from Nerja on the coast. This is an old moorish area of Spain and has a magical energy, a legacy of the past.

Reiki I will introduce you to the basic history of Reiki and the hand positions involved in a treatment. Following the attunement, my main aim is to allow you to feel the energy of Reiki so that you are confident in giving a treatment. You will be a practitioner at the end of the course and I encourage you to practice straight away as this is the only way to heighten your experience of Reiki and bring it into your lives. You will receive a Course manual and Certificate.

Reiki II

Saturday 19th September (10-3pm)

Reiki II enhances your practice with a detailed knowledge of the symbols involved in the attunement process. For many, Reiki II brings them back to Reiki after a time of non-Reiki practice and for these we also go over any Reiki I issues which arise. You will receive a Course manual and Certificate.

The ultimate step in the Reiki journey but really just the beginning. The Reiki Master course is your decision to live Reiki, be Reiki and choose to follow your ultimate potential. You receive the Reiki Master symbol both in attunement and for your practice. As you can imagine, this enhances your practice and changes your awareness in whichever way you choose to follow it. You will become a Reiki Master Practitioner and also learn the fundamentals of becoming a Reiki Master Teacher which you may use to begin teaching and grow as a teacher. You will receive a Course manual and certificate.

Living Vertically…

Osho called it living vertically instead of horizontally and from my own experience he meant what happens in your life when you stop struggling against the current and begin to go with the flow of the river, harnessing its power to your own advantage and ultimately for the world around you.

You can tell you’re in it when you suddenly start meeting people and seeing and building new opportunities around you. You can also tell when you’re not; the stress, the imbalance, the inability to suceed at something, the difficulties and the worry. NLP describes it in a different way which made a lot of sense to me. When you’re focused on the positive aspects of where you want to be, what type of person you’d like to be, what you’d like to do, your neurological sensor which has to reduce down the thousands of pieces of information you receive every day, focuses only on these aspects and as if by magic, what you were focusing on appears in your life. The tricky part of course is moving away from the fears and negativity which surround you long enough to actually have the belief that you might dare to imagine such positivity!

I love how such different forms of self-development, the Indian Guru and the modern NLP methodology have both found ways to describe the same thing. They are both trying to help you understand the real rules of the universe and how to live by them. How we perceive the world today comes from the minds of other people throughout history who have fed society beliefs which then seem to have become real. But, it has not always been like this and if you want to know the secret of humanity’s real potential you will find it here. There are a set of rules which far from being rigid are a flowing set of pointers which guide you on your own journey, and they are available to all without exception.

Week 4. NLP at the airport!

Flying from the UK to France, I thought I’d buy a novel as i’m now researching for my own creative writing which is going rather well, I’m writing every week and without the pressure to ’succeed’ or ‘make money’ things are flowing. But contrary to my plans, a little bright red book seemed to jump out at me at the airport.

Its been an amazing insight into my own mind. To be brief, if you are thinking at all about the thing you want to change i.e I don’t want to be fat, or I want to be out of debt, all your mind can process are the words ‘fat’ and ‘debt’, so guess what? Your brain will make the choices required to keep you fat and in debt. The answer is to be forward in your thinking, to have ‘move toward’ goals rather than ‘move away’ goals. And I can’t stress enough, that not once in the day must these words appear, only the positive goals ahead of you. I have begun to work with this myself in this way and the change is very dramatic. At once, I feel clearer, freer from worry and happy and positive about the changes of the future.

Another great phrase to help me check if I am sabotaging any aspect of my life was, ‘anything less than 100% commitment is sabotage’. That’s quite a full on statement and as I repeat it to myself every day, I wonder at the power it holds. If I find myself feeling a bit lethargic about a plan, I say it and it shifts me into gear.

So, just a little taster for you of NLP. I intend to become a practitioner and have enquired about courses so I’ll keep you up-dated.
