Working Life

Can you be busy, yet maintain stillness and peace within?

This is the current question I am looking at.  Since a couple of weeks ago I have begun to work more and have three projects on the go at the moment together with being a mum and still trying to get our house finished. 

The answer that has come to me is that in order to experience a sense of peace, we must begin with the body.  If there is discord and stress in the body this will be manifest in the mind and emotions and ultimately the energetic body.  If we have Reiki and harmonise our energy this will not have a lasting effect unless we cultivate a regular physical and energetic practice.

How many times have we heard that to meditate every day is a good thing, but still many of us are not doing this.  I have found that rather than sit still to meditate, being physical in meditation is much easier and at the same time helps the blood to flow and the endorphines charge, enhancing my mental state at the same time.  So I am running and in the running or in any repetitive action, much as a chant would do I am finding my stillness.  After running, I am practicing ashtanga yoga to calm the body and the heart.  The key to this is continuity, not hours pounding the street because my mind is telling me to do it, but rather a daily check in with myself and a practice based on how I feel and what is a good thing for me at that time.

From this it came to me that it is not the activity we are doing, but rather how we do it.  This holds true with all things.  We may be running because we want to run away or we may run because today the body feels strong and wants to strengthen itself?

What are you doing and how are you doing it?  We so often want to change our jobs, our lives, our relationships but maybe looking at how we do what is now present in our lives will be more effective and lead us to find that external change begins within.
